About the Producer
Roland Champion Champagne
Since the 18th century, the Champion family were growing grapes to sell on to negociants. But for the last four generations, the family has been producing its own champagne.
The history of the family started with André Champion in 1929, the year when the brand “Champagne André Champion” was merchandised for the first time. In time, the size of the vineyard increased across Chouilly, within the famous Côte des Blancs, which boasts some of the best soils for growing Chardonnay grapes.
André's early death will propel his eldest son Roland, at just 16 years old, to head of the family business. Roland continued to increase the family’s estate and in 1951 the champagne house was renamed, Champagne Roland Champion.
Roland and Jacqueline Champion's children: François, Vincent and Clara as well as their children Carole, Ambroise, Clémence, Astrid and Félix represent the family today. With François currently being the wine maker of the house.
At Dawe Wines our aim is to showcase champagne makers like the Champion family and offer their terroir driven champagnes to the UK where they are difficult to find. Click here to buy them online with free delivery on orders over £150.*
